Let's see. I left this account two years ago in hopes of improving myself. I found that my more recent stay with a new account at Deviantart was considerably better, because of a few things.
a.) Less commenting. I noticed that there were several incidents of people who got 50,000 pageviews because they left 50,000 comments. I tried to avoid that myself, and much to my expectations I recieved less pageviews in return, but those pageviews held more quality. Also, because of the lesser quantity of my comments, I made sure to make them worth their while; I tried to incorporate effort and at least some constructive criticism whenever I commented. This prevents spam buildup as well, and the comments meant more.
b.) I changed my methods of browsing, and so found a 'different' side of the Deviantart community. You might have noticed that there are different 'circles', 'groups', or 'rings' of people. I do visit and appreciate the 'popular' artists from time to time, but the majority of my delight now comes from discovering hidden talents and different sorts of art. I also made a large effort of trying to move away from the stereotypical anime style, and from then on my view of art grew immensely broader and I do feel like I have made a huge achievement in this respect.
c.) For the longest time I have tried and failed to break away from drawing anime, or at least to merge with other styles. I knew of some anime art, especially the ones with touches of realism or more advanced coloring techniques, but a majority of the popular art I saw on deviantart was simply cell shade, over and over. Disappointed by this, I tried to take different paths and alternatives which ended up in me realizing to an even greater extent just how beautiful anime art can be when in the right hands, and not just mass produced for fanservice and the like; I'm glad to say that the number of these kind of artists are growing and the appreciation for them and their styles as well; I've found many artists that manage anime art without having to stick with cell shade, and a few who could break through the cell shade limit to make their cell shade art still remarkable; this gives me inspiration and hope, because I realized that I did not have to break away completely from anime in general to find an ideal community. I hated being stereotyped as only an "anime drawer" just because I was only able to draw anime despite my greatest desires to paint other styles such as realism, but now I am starting to become more tolerable of what art I have developed, and now I eagerly await my progress in the future.
My only regret is leaving so much crap in this gallery that I have to log in after this really nice 97 weeks of inactivity that was going on here just to delete all the stuff, ahaha~.
Overall, my stay at Deviantart has gotten a lot better during my break from this account, and the things that this account stood for. I've greatly decreased needless commenting and favorites so that the actions I take mean more to me, and perhaps, to the receiver. I only joined one club, and generally stayed for the most part out of the anime galleries, where a lot of the qualities I frowned upon existed. This all added up to a much better experience and a more appreciative look at the community on Deviantart.
